August 3, 2009 - United Bank Card (UBC) is pleased to announce the launch of the industry’s first free electronic cash register (ECR) program. This offering means that standalone credit card terminals will no longer be necessary. UBC’s state-of-the-art electronic cash registers will allow merchants to manage cash, checks and credit cards as well as track taxes in a simple and efficient manner all from one integrated device. The UBC exclusive integrated payment processing technology is PCI compliant and provides credit, debit, EBT and gift/loyalty card functionality, all driven by a simple menu display on an LCD screen.
The restaurant package utilizes a Casio TK 1550 electronic cash register, designed with the most demanding restaurant environments in mind. The retail system will include a Casio TE 1500, developed specifically to accommodate retail merchant locations. Both will also include a cash drawer and backlit customer display.
United Bank Card EVP of Financial Institutions J. Brian Merena states that “In an industry where it is becoming extremely difficult for financial institutions to develop and maintain a profitable, low-risk merchant program, UBC’s free ECR program can instantly provide value to all of our bank partners. Just as we brought our free terminal program to their business clients, this new program will allow our bank partners to offer technology that is not available through any other provider today, giving them a tremendous edge over the competition.”
UBC has established a turnkey back office and deployment center to support these state of the art systems and to make the sales and setup process as simple and easy as possible for both our bank partners and the merchant. This support infrastructure allows banks to simply offer the free ECR and let UBC take care of the rest. Additionally, it ensures that merchants will no longer have to spend hours reading manuals and replacing keys to operate their cash register. Each system will come pre-programmed with an individually customized keyboard layout that they will design through a user-friendly online wizard. Additionally, a dedicated help desk will provide 24/7 customer support to make sure that their cash register is always running properly.
Ranked by the Nilson Report as one of the largest payment processors in the United States, UBC currently handles the merchant accounts for over 100,000 locations and processes in excess of 9 billion dollars annually. Consistently recognized as a leader in innovation, United Bank Card is a three-time consecutive Inc. 500 honoree and was ranked on Deloitte’s 2008 “Technology Fast 50” list for New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The company has also garnered awards for its outstanding customer service and technical support.
